BAR SANDØY
Our interior design project transformed a former 1960s electrical supply shop in Milan’s Porta Venezia district into a contemporary and informal wine bar. Located in Port Venezia district, Bar Sandøy is named after a small Norwegian island and serves as a new informal "landing place" within Røst, our Milanese gastronomic archipelago. Our intervention is rooted in the balance between respecting existing features and a contemporary vision of hospitality , resulting in an intimate and vibrant space.
The historical stratification was preserved as the living material of the project. The venue develops longitudinally: the first half hosts tables, wall-mounted support shelves, and high seating , while the second features the bar counter preceding the kitchen. The color palette we chose plays on shades of red, gradations of black, and earth tones , creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. The furniture reflects a quest for sober and functional aesthetics. A distinctive graphic touch is provided by the black and red checkerboard cladding that embraces the bar counter area and the customer restroom. Three steel beams traverse the space at mid-height, serving as an exhibition support for a collection of about thirty vintage and contemporary posters , creating a visual path that is light and ironic.
