WILHELM LAMP
Tiziano Vudafieri presented the Wilhelm Lamp at Rossana Orlandi's "Guiltlessplastic - Master's Pieces" exhibition. This unique piece reinterprets a vase by Bauhaus master Wilhelm Wagenfeld, a Vudafieri collectible. The architect transformed a 1935 Wagenfeld glass vase into a large pendant lamp, illuminating the original during the show to emphasize the inspiration-work link.
The Wilhelm Lamp uses recycled polycarbonate, addressing the need for a second life for end-of-cycle consumer products. This abundant material undergoes "mechanical" recycling: grinding, melting, and reprocessing. Vudafieri collaborated with Baolab for material and technique selection, LATI (thermoplastic compounds), and GIMAC. Utilizing a large 3D printer, GIMAC developed a direct-from-granules printing technique, saving energy by skipping wire transformation.
Ro Plastic-Master's Pieces, curated by Rossana Orlandi (April 6-14, 2019, Museum of Science and Technology), featured 27 new recycled plastic pieces by renowned artists, designers, and architects, all strictly conceived and made from recycled/recyclable plastic.
