Mountain Stone House
This project centers on the restoration and adaptive reuse of two historic agricultural buildings nestled in a small mountain village in Northern Italy. The core challenge was reimagining a former stable as a high-performance, energy-efficient dwelling. The only overt nods to contemporary design on the facade are the inclusion of two expansive fixed glass panels, oriented south and east to embrace the stunning landscape.
Inside, the design orchestrates a dialogue between three key elements: the warmth of wood (oak/birch plywood flooring, larch planks/restored original chestnut flooring), the generous flow of space and sunlight, and the breathtaking panoramic views.
