CHINA CITY PAVILION

Temporary Pavilion, Milan - Italy

The China City Pavilion, centrally located in Milan opposite the main station, was the only officially endorsed pavilion and provided logistical support to China's three Expo 2015 pavilions. Its strategic position ensured high visibility and accessibility, making it a prestigious showcase, meeting point, and exchange hub.

Inspired by the dynamic geometry of a heron's wing, the pavilion's design emphasizes lightness, order, and balance. Its open-plan, pure glass volume features an outdoor space reminiscent of a Roman atrium, highlighted by a striking portico. It has been designed to be itinerant, with a dismountable, adaptable, and reusable structure reflecting modernity and sustainability. Conceived as a shared space for Chinese and Italian cultures, the pavilion offered a contemporary showcase of their best. A wide portico with a pagoda-style laminated plywood roof shelters the glass volume, which housed three distinct zones: a showroom, an institutional area, and a food and beverage space with an outdoor patio.
