ITALIAN PAVILION
Nestled on the banks of the Huangpu River, the Italian Pavilion enjoys a prime location. The views encompassing the river and the historic cityscape frame the building, evoking 20th-century interpretations of classic Italian seaside houses.
Water, a vital element in the evolution of Italian culture and society, is a central feature of the project. It appears in various forms throughout the Pavilion, including the plaza and several ground-floor spaces, serving both as a physical presence and a cultural reference. Large basins connect the entrance to the progression of public functions within the space. Suspended within the large containers that form the Pavilion are six cubes, each representing a key aspect of the exhibition's narrative: taste, style, innovation, urbanity, art, and history.
